The post-2024 'CRS reset' is over. The latest 5 draws averaged 553 for all-program rounds. Category-based draws (healthcare, STEM, French) are still inviting candidates in the 460-490 range — but the windows close fast.

The lever that moved most African applicants over 540 in 2026 was, predictably, the provincial nomination (PNP) — adding 600 points. Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Atlantic provinces remain the most accessible.

If your CRS is below 480 and you're not chasing a PNP, the realistic timeline to PR is 18-30 months, not 9. Plan accordingly.
